Salt free Christianity, the way of today’s Church
We hear of all different kinds of ingredients in food that we should avoid for our health. Salt is high on the list. Today salt is used as a flavor enhancer, but in biblical times it had a more important purpose, it preserved meats. It was the most available way to keep meat from going bad.
Lev. 2:13 “and every offering of your grain offering you shall season with salt; you shall not allow the salt of the covenant of your God to be lacking from your grain offering. With all your offerings you shall offer salt.’
Rom. 12:1-2 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Your body is a living sacrifice to God when you are employed in his service. This is why Paul follows this with not being conformed to the world; if we are conformed to the world we are no longer having salt in our sacrifice.
We can’t tell someone about Jesus without having salt…
